Changing My Direction

Hubs and I watched Julia & Julia on Sunday. It is the story of a woman who starts blogging about cooking all of Julia Child's recipes in a cookbook.  She does this to try and find some focus in her life as she feels she is a little ADD. The movie follows her through one year; the ups and downs of blogging, its effect on her work life, her marriage, and her friendships. I enjoyed the movie a great deal and was able to connect with the main character deeply.

In January of 2010, my resolution was to spend more time with my creative self. I have been doing so crazily, but I have realized that I myself have a touch of the ADD bug. I start lots of projects, save lots of ideas to try and then falter in finishing them up. I also find myself with a little OCD because the projects are never good enough. From now I am going to try a little focus in my endeavors. I will start a different project at a time, recording the steps and then post the steps and results. I will then put my handmade items up for sale on www.etsy.com. It will be my journey through the creative process with maybe some compensation in the end to fund my future projects.  I will always credit the source of my project to be fair to them as well.

This doesn't mean that I will not be adding my normal meme blogs, or man candy, or humor. I will just be trying to FINISH the projects I start which will also set an example for my ADD daughter who is also super creative and anxious to share her projects with the world.  I hope that you will join me and leave me comments on how you like the projects as I go along!

  1. This is my problem when getting in touch with my creative self. I have ADD and it is very distracting!

  3. It is hard to stop at just one thing when you are so creative, It is funny you mentioned that movie because it actually inspired me to start my blog. I had absolutely no idea so many people blogged. It has been fun to meet and learn about different people this way. I wish you well in trying to complete your projects. By the way, one of my patients told me that the real character (the one whom the movie is based on) left her husband for an artist and has since written another book. I wonder if blogging ruined her relationship???

  4. I can't stay on task worth a poop anymore and rarely have the energy to even think about it.

  5. I loved that movie, and hubby looked over at me (during the scene wherein Julie is having a fit on the kitchen floor) and said, "Look honey, it's you!" Yes, I relate. LOL
